Harmanecká cave
In the valley of Harmanec, northwest of Banská Bystrica, another of Slovakia’s important caves – Harmanecká cave – hides its beauty.
The cave has a total length of more than 3 km and boasts magnificent and massive pagoda stalagmites, rich occurrence of soft sinter – sinitra waterfalls and curtains or lakes… In the cave you will find 9 species of bats, the most common of which is the common bat (about 1000 individuals). The underground passages and halls are formed in the Mesozoic limestones of the Middle Triassic. The air temperature in the cave ranges from 5.8°C to 6.4°C.
Access to the cave – the route to the cave starts at the central parking lot on the road Harmanec – Turčianske Teplice. To the entrance of the cave, it is necessary to climb a serpentine nature trail with a slightly steeper climb – the ascent takes about 40 minutes. Length of the tour route: 1,020 m. Duration of the tour: 80 min.
