Kremnica Mint

One of the oldest continuously producing enterprises in the world.

The Kremnica Mint was founded in 1328 thanks to the privilege of King Charles Robert of Anjou, who made Kremnica a free royal town. For almost seven centuries it has continuously produced coinage products that are among the top in the world in terms of several criteria. In 2028 it will celebrate 700 years of continuous activity, making it one of the oldest continuously producing companies in the world.

The Kremnica Mint exposition offers the opportunity to see not only interesting exhibits in the newly renovated premises of the historical building, but also a unique tour of the old coin mint. The mint is the last place in Europe where minting machines known as Vulcans are still used in production. Visitors can thus see the minting of metal tickets or badges directly on these machines during the tour. In addition, they can try their hand at stamping a token on a historic stamping machine –  balancieri.

Since autumn 2008, the premises of the new minting plant, from which the first Slovak euro coins came out, have also been open to the public. Visitors thus have a unique opportunity to see the minting of coins on modern minting machines. The exhibition includes products ranging from medals made of various metals, through circulating coins of countries of several continents to rare commemorative coins made of precious metals, as well as short films about the history of the mint.
