Wooden Articular Church in Hronsek
Wooden Articular Evangelical Church is a precious historical monument together with a wooden bell tower and in 2008 it was inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is located in the village of Hronská between Banská Bystrica and Zvolen.
Construction of the church began in 1975 and the church was completed a year later. An interesting feature of the construction were the conditions that the church had to meet: it had to be built within one year, it had to be made entirely of wood, it had to be built without the use of metal elements, it had to have a tower, and the entrance had to be directly from the street. The church has the plan of a cross, is 8 m high, 26 m long and 11 m wide. It has 30 windows. The columns are decorated with carved Ionic ornaments in the header, they are oak, the other parts are mostly spruce. On the lower part of the choirs is hanging a carved ornament in the form of a lime leaf – a symbol of Slavic awareness. In total, the church has a seating capacity of 1,100 and overlooks the altar. Thanks to the excellent acoustics in its premises, it has excellent potential for holding classical music concerts. There is also an organ in the church premises, made by the master Martin Podkonický in 1764. Around the church are planted lime trees, which are as old as the church itself.
Evangelical services are held there every Sunday at 9.00 am.
