The Slovak National Uprising Museum
The Slovak National Uprising Museum is one of Banská Bystrica’s landmarks. It has its seat in the unusual building of the Slovak National Uprising Memorial in the city park.
The Slovak National Uprising Memorial itself is one of the most important memorials in Slovakia. The museum was founded on 8 May 1955. In its professional activities, the museum focuses on the development of Slovak society in the period 1918-1948 with a focus on the anti-fascist resistance and the Slovak National Uprising.
Thanks to its work and high quality, this institution has a nationwide to international scope and carries out professional-methodological, advisory and coordinating activities. The museum has more than 66,956 items of museum collections and 136,157 items of archive collections at its disposal. The Slovak National Uprising Museum also includes a special library, which focuses on the acquisition of published scientific publications and historical book collections, especially from the period 1938 to 1950.
Throughout the year, permanent exhibitions are available to visitors, but also short-term thematic exhibitions of different character (art or documentary) are presented. The museum also carries out educational activities for schools and includes a Digitization Center.
